Skills for Life

We are 1st Old Malden (St John the Baptist) Scout Group, commonly referred to as 1st Old Malden or just 1OM.

Welcome to 1st Old Malden
(St John the Baptist)
Scout Group

We have been providing scouting activities for children and young people aged between 6 and 18 across Old Malden and the surrounding area since 1950. To learn more of our history click here.

We run an exciting weekly programme with the focus on outdoor adventure, whilst providing the opportunity to develop friendships and understanding of others in a fun, exciting and safe way.

We take part in Royal Kingston District events such as fun days, camps and sports competitions.

Our young people are involved in regional and national contests and several are also members of our local Scout and Guide Band.

The Group is sponsored by St. John’s Church, so is very much an integral part of the life and outreach of the parish.

We have One Beaver Colony (Yukon), One Cub pack (Cornwell), a Scout Troop and a partnered Explorer Scout Unit.

Adult volunteers

The Scouts award-winning training scheme for volunteers means that adults get as much from Scouts as young people.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
